What does the change from Microsoft Dynamics NAV to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central mean to you as a Dynamics NAV user? Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central supports you in your day-to-day business – just like Dynamics NAV. But Microsoft’s innovation also brings about some changes:

Will “Microsoft Dynamics NAV“ still be available?

You can continue to use your local or hybrid installation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV as usual. From 2019, however, the name “Microsoft Dynamics NAV” will no longer be used, but the functionality will still be available. For users of a local version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, this only constitutes a change of the name.

What are the consequences for me as customer of GOB and for users of the unitop solution?

You as our customer can continue to use your current on-premises Microsoft Dynamics NAV solution as usual. There will be no changes in your day-to-day business.

However, there will be no more upgrade versions with the name Microsoft Dynamics NAV because the name will be changed to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, which means that from 31 March 2019 onwards, upgrades will no longer be made to Dynamics NAV 2018 on-premises but to Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises. You can choose freely when you want to make this upgrade.

Will the licensing model change?

Up to now, Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018 and older versions were licensed to concurrent users, allowing a certain number of persons to access the system simultaneously.

Microsoft 365 Business Central is licensed to named users, requiring each user to have a personal license to be able to use the system. The users are qualified as three types (LINK setzen) that differ in the degree of utilization.

Our customers who use Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018 or previous versions will remain in the concurrent-user licensing model. The licensing model will only be changed to named users when Microsoft Dynamics is updated to Business Central.

Will I be able to navigate easily through Business Central as a Dynamics NAV user?

Business Central provides a user-friendly experience in a new design. There will still be tiles in the user interface and the whole structure should be familiar to all users of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. A new feature is that data visualisation and Business Intelligence are already integrated. Especially the reporting is displayed more clearly and offers insights into business data.

You can choose the time of the upgrade to Business Central yourself. Until then, there will be no changes in your day-to-day business.
